If they find a cure for something, and it is simple and easy to produce, and they release it, anyone can make it, and they stop making money from it. It's also not in their interest to cure aids, as it is only in epidemic numbers in countries in Africa and so on, where they can't afford to pay for a cure.
And just think, if they provided a cure to the common cold, in a few years' time, there would be no colds. Imagine how the cold and flu medication industry would suffer from that.
